Middle School Summer School
Program Overview
The Cornwall Central School District Summer School Program is designed for students in grades 7 and 8 who have been identified as needing additional academic support due to limited success during the 2025–2026 school year.
Eligible students will be recommended by the Cornwall Middle School Counseling Center and will participate in a remedial program focused on strengthening skills in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and academic success strategies. Instruction will include classroom teaching supported by Google Classroom.
Transportation
Transportation will not be provided. Parents/guardians are responsible for arranging transportation to and from Cornwall Central High School each day.

Student Eligibility
Students are eligible if they:
- Are enrolled in grades 7 or 8 in the Cornwall Central School District.
- Earned an unsatisfactory grade in a core academic course during the 2025–2026 school year.
- Have been recommended by the Cornwall Middle School Counseling Center.
Only students identified and approved by Cornwall Middle School may participate in the program.
Registration
Eligible students and families will be notified directly by Cornwall Middle School. Students who
register will automatically be enrolled in all three program courses:
- Math 7/8
- Skills 7/8
- English 7/8
Families will receive a confirmation email with additional program information after registration has been processed. Only students identified and approved by Cornwall Middle School are eligible to register. The District reserves the right to cancel, combine, or modify courses due to enrollment or staffing needs.
Program Information
Location: Cornwall Central High School, 10 Dragon Drive, New Windsor, NY
Program Dates: July 13 – July 30, 2026
Schedule: Classes meet Monday through Thursday. There are no Friday classes.

- 7:15 a.m. – 8:45 a.m.
- Math 7/8
- Period 2:
- 8:50 a.m. – 10:20 a.m.
- Study Skills
- Period 3:
- 10:25 a.m. – 11:55 a.m.
- ELA 7/8
Students are expected to attend the full instructional day.
Student Handbook
Curriculum
Instruction is aligned with New York State Learning Standards and focuses on strengthening foundational academic skills.
Courses are designed to improve student performance through:
- Reading and writing development
- Mathematical problem-solving
- Study skills and organization
- Academic habits that support success across all subject areas
The Skills course will focus on strategies that promote improved academic performance and student confidence.
Assessment and Progress Reporting
Students will complete diagnostic assessments in reading and mathematics at the beginning and end of the program to measure growth.
Final reports will include:
- Pass/Fail status for each course
- Assessment results
- Teacher feedback regarding student progress
Reports will be shared with parents/guardians and Cornwall Middle School upon completion of the program.
Student success will be determined through:
- Class participation
- Completion of assignments
- Academic effort
- Demonstration of skill growth
Students are expected to follow all classroom expectations established by their teachers.
Academic Integrity
Students are expected to maintain high standards of academic honesty. Cheating, plagiarism, or other forms of academic dishonesty will result in a zero on the assignment or assessment involved. Repeated violations may result in dismissal from the program.
Attendance and Tardiness
Regular attendance is essential for student success and is expected throughout the duration of the Summer School Program.
Students are expected to:
- Arrive on time each day.
- Attend all scheduled classes.
- Remain in attendance for the entire instructional day.
Attendance policies include:
- Tardiness exceeding fifteen (15) minutes will be recorded as one absence.
- Two tardies to the same class will equal one absence.
- Parents/guardians must provide written notification or email documentation for all absences and tardiness.
- Excessive absences may result in removal from the Summer School Program.
Excused absences include:
- Personal illness
- Medical appointments
- Illness or death in the family
- Religious observance
- Court appearances

Student Conduct
Students are expected to follow the Cornwall Central School District Code of Conduct throughout the summer program.
Possible consequences for violations include:
- Warning
- Removal from class
- Dismissal from the program
- Referral to law enforcement when appropriate
While efforts will be made to support students in meeting behavioral expectations, severe or repeated violations may result in removal from the program.
Technology and Internet Use
Technology resources are provided to support instruction and student learning. Students are expected to:
- Use technology for educational purposes only.
- Access appropriate online content.
- Follow copyright laws and district policies.
- Communicate respectfully and responsibly online.
- Maintain a positive learning environment.
Violations of technology expectations may result in:
- Warning
- Temporary loss of technology privileges
- Removal from the program
- Referral to law enforcement when appropriate
Withdrawal from the Program
Parents/guardians may withdraw their student from the program at any time by notifying the Summer School Principal via email.
Students who accumulate excessive absences may be withdrawn from the program. Parents/guardians and Cornwall Middle School will be notified of any program withdrawal.
Regents Examinations
Any 8th-grade student wishing to retake a Regents examination taken in June may register for the August Regents examinations either:
- In person on June 29, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Cornwall Central High School, or
- Online through July 10, 2026 by clicking here and filling out the registration form
August Regents examinations will be administered at Valley Central High School.
